Representing your interests in the Florida House of Representatives continues to be a welcomed challenge and a rewarding privilege. I appreciate your vote of confidence, as I take great pride in serving House District 58.
As you know, while much of the country is recovering from the recession, Florida continues to face many economic hurdles. That is why during the 2010 legislative session, my colleagues and I focused much of our attention on economic development and job creation. In addition, we confronted a number of issues important to District 58, including keeping your family safe thanks to the passage of HB 1493, a bill I sponsored making it a crime to assist a career offender elude law enforcement.
The state budget was approved on the final day of session and includes funding for many important local and statewide projects. However, in my opinion, it fails to meet the needs of all Floridians. That is why I voted against the $70.4 billion spending plan.
Still, I want you to know that there were numerous important advances made this session that, as you will read on, will improve the lives of our families and communities.
I hope you find this legislative update to be a useful source of information on the 2010 session. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the issues, please do not hesitate to call my office at (813) 673-4673 or email me at janet.cruz@myfloridahouse.gov.Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent you.
Sincerely,
Representative Janet Cruz, District 58
